Christmas Marketplace for Seminary

Thank you for all you have done to support our seminary students. You have graciously helped the students in the past, either by sending gifts, gift cards, quilts or dollars for the Christmas Marketplace. These gifts encourage the students and bring them joy, making the holidays memorable in many ways.

Once again our LWML is asking for your help in creating another special Marketplace for our seminary students in Fort Wayne. During the month of October through November 10th we will be collecting gift cards which will be shared with the students before they leave for their Christmas break in December.

It would be a blessing to receive:
1. Gift cards in increments of $10, $20 or $25, which may be used at merchants in the Fort Wayne area such as Walmart, Target or Meijer or restaurant chains such as Applebees, Cracker Barrel, Olive Garden, Red Robin, Subway and others.
2. Service station and gas cards from Shell, Marathon, BP or Speedway in increments of $25 and above.
3. Cash gifts to purchase dining hall lunch tickets. The lunch tickets allow students who live off campus to eat lunch on campus rather than needing to bring their meals from home.

Please place your gifts in the gold can on the counter. Thank you!

Cottage Bible Study 9/12

You probably know Eve, Mary, Rachel, Rebekah and Martha, but do you know Abigail? Who was she? What can we learn from her?
Each of us can point to someone who makes life complicated. It could be a coworker, a family member, or even a spouse. Sometimes it’s easy to let circumstances like this control our thoughts, words and actions. We react, rather than act… and find ourselves frustrated – at ourselves and the situation.

But does this have to be the way it is? One woman of the Bible shows us that there is a better way. The way of wisdom. The way of hope. The way of Jesus.

In our Bible study this year we will journey along with Abigail as she uses her influence in two men’s lives – with different results. See how the empowerment of the Holy Spirit can help you deal with difficult people… without becoming difficult yourself!

Study guides will be available for $8.00 each. To order one please place your name on the order sheet that is next to the offering box if you have not already done so by September 29th . You will be getting a discount of almost $5.00 per book. Ladies – can you guess how many women are mentioned in the Bible? According to one source there are 166 women who are mentioned by name and 118 who are not.

You may know many of them, but do you know Abigail and her story? She may not be so familiar to you. Get ready to meet and to know Abigail, an Old Testament figure. Who was she? How did she make a difference? How did God use her and what can we learn from her. Plan to join us and find out.

Watch for more information in the coming weeks about this amazing study and kick off information, but in the meantime (by Sunday, Sept. 8) if you are interested in purchasing a book please sign the sheet by the mailboxes so that we can be sure to order enough copies. Often bulk discounts are available, but the expected cost is around $7.00 – $8.00 per book. If you have any questions please see Gloria Field, Julie Lena, Jan Roebuck or Cheryl Tellman.

Seminary Donation Day

We will be traveling to CTSFW on October 8th , 2024 to attend CTSFW’s Annual Donation Day from 8:30 –11:30 am (EST) in Kramer Chapel. This event is sponsored by the Seminary Guild. Donation Day has been an annual tradition at Concordia Seminary since it was started on the Springfield Campus in the early 1900’s. For over 100 years, women from congregations near and far have collected donations of food and clothing for the Seminary students and their families and brought them to the Seminary.

This tradition continues in 2024. Women of St. Peter are invited to spend morning on campus. We will be dropping off donations of food and gently used clothing, worshipping in Kramer Chapel, learning more about how congregations and LWML groups are supporting the seminary and eating lunch with other guests and students in the Dining Hall. If you are interested in donating Food or Clothing Items, there are fliers listing Clothing Co-op Needs and Food Co-op Donation Ideas in the Narthex. If you are interested in going with us, contact Margie Wickert, Gloria Field or Chery Tellman by September 22nd . The cost of lunch is $12 per person and payable at registration.
