Women’s Bible Study

New Women’s Bible Study
Ladies – can you guess how many women are mentioned in the Bible? Get a paper and pen (or if you have a really good memory you can do it in your head) and make a guess about how many women you think are mentioned by NAME in the Old Testament and New Testament. Think about it this week and be looking next week for an approximate answer.

How many women in the Bible can you name or tell their stories? You probably know Eve, Sarah, Mary Magdalene, Mary the Mother of Jesus and others, but do you know Abigail and her story? She may not be so familiar to you. Get ready to meet and to know Abigail, an Old Testament figure. Who was she? How did she make a difference? How did God use her and what can we learn from her. Plan to join us and find out.

Watch for more information in the coming weeks about this amazing study and kick off information, but in the meantime (by September 8th) if you are interested in purchasing a book please sign the sheet by the mailboxes so that we can be sure to order enough copies. Often bulk discounts are available, but the expected cost is around $7.00 – $8.00 per book. If you have any questions please see Gloria Field, Julie Lena, Jan Roebuck or Cheryl Tellman.

Bloodmobile at St. Peter

The American Red Cross is experiencing an Emergency Blood Shortage as the nation faces the lowest number of people
giving blood in 20 years. The Red Cross blood supply has fallen to critically low levels across the country, and blood donors are urged to make an appointment and help alleviate the shortage to ensure lifesaving medical procedures are not put on hold.

Over the last 20 years, the number of people donating blood to the Red Cross has fallen by about 40%. Blood products are currently going to hospitals faster than blood donations are coming in, and in recent weeks, the Red Cross has had to limit distributions of type O blood products – among the most transfused blood types – to hospitals. You can give up to 6 times a year. Get started by scheduling your first donation appointment of 2024 now!

St. Peter Lutheran Church – North Judson is hosting a blood drive on Thursday, 1/25/2024 from 2:00 PM – 6:00 PM. Here is how you can register:
o Download the Blood Donor App and schedule on the app
o Call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767) and let them know you would like to register for this specific drive
o Scan the QR Code on our flyer
o Visit redcrossblood.org, and search sponsor code: stpetluthnj

Seminary Gift Card Thank Yous

Thank you for your support of seminary students at Concordia Theological Seminary through the Christmas Marketplace this year. The gift cards and quilts we received are a blessing for all of us. The quilts keep us warm on cold Indiana nights and help our accommodations here feel more like home while the gift cards help alleviate some financial strain. This is especially true for me this year as I prepare for both marriage and an internship in the coming year. I am still not completely sure what all these will entail, but I do know that God will provide for what we need including the gifts that you have so generously sent. I hope you have a merry and blessed Christmas and that your year ahead is also filled with wonderful blessings! Ruth Ann Sangness

Thank you so much for the gift card – at this time of year it is much appreciated. We are in our last year at the seminary and very much looking forward to Call Night. God’s richest blessings at this holiday season! Jeff & Caryn Arnold

A blessed Christmas season to you! May this celebratory time of the year bring you peace, hope and happiness as we rejoice in the greatest gift in the world, Jesus Christ. As we thank the Lord for His gift, my wife, children and I thank you for your great generosity. The gift cards we have received from you and many others provide us with groceries, meals, presents for our families with full tanks of gas to visit them this Christmas. We greatly appreciate your prayers, thoughts and support at this time of the year! Luke Otten & Family

Pastor Speckhard bio

Pastor Speckhard graduated from Valparaiso University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Classics (Greek and Latin culture/literature) in 2011. And earned his M.Div at Concordia Theological Seminary in Fort Wayne, Indiana, graduating in 2015. Pastor Speckhard grew up the oldest of four with his family in Valparaiso, IN. He met his wife Erika while attending Valparaiso University. They have three great children. In addition to reading and writing, Pastor’s interests and hobbies mostly have to do with sports. He loves to play and watch just about every sport out there — particularly football and hockey. His family has rooted for the Packers, Blackhawks, Cubs, Fighting Irish (football), and Hoosiers (basketball) for about as long as anyone can remember. He loves to play hockey, baseball/softball, basketball, tennis, and golf (He said “though, as a general rule, I am much better at watching than playing”).

Pastor Speckhard’s special school memory is

“The Miracle of Salvation”

“We’ve never been part of a church that’s just getting started, so this is all new territory for us. The bottom line is, it’s AWESOME! It’s incredible to see God at work, bringing people together and making the pieces fall into place. For the first time in years, we are truly excited about being in a Sunday morning service. We haven’t worshipped and learned like we are now in quite some time.”

“The Miracle of Salvation”

“ What drew me to church were the strong family relationships. I grew up in church all my life but did not know Christ Himself. He was so misrepresented in the religious ‘Christianity’ I knew. When I came to church I met genuine people who loved God and loved each other. I was loved on by people who made me feel that it was okay to be not okay sometimes. I didn’t have to put on a smile.”
