The Nineteenth Sunday after Pentecost – Matins
God mightily delivered Israel to the Promised Land, but the Israelites were also indicted for their profound rebellion. Resolute confidence as God’s elect is laid to waste in the wake of overwhelming sin. Paul’s confidence was not in his genealogy but rather grounded in his resolute faith in Christ, through whom we receive every bit of righteousness and grace. Jesus is God’s own Son, sent amid conspirators and murders to face death that we may inherit life.
Readings:
Collect of the Day:
Gracious God, You gave Your Son into the hands of sinful men who killed Him. Forgive us when we reject Your unfailing love, and grant us the fullness of Your salvation; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
Hymns:
“Faith and Truth and Life Bestowing” LSB 584 (Hymn of the Month)
“My Song Is Love Unknown” LSB 430
“Christ Be My Leader” LSB 861
