The Second Sunday after Pentecost – Divine Service 1
God desires steadfast love and mercy – not sacrifice – as Jesus echoes the prophet Hosea to the Pharisees and reminds us today. Our worship is hollow if we trust our own works and self-righteousness rather than living a life that overflows with the love and mercy that God provides to those who follow Him. Our Lord calls us to repentance and promises to heal and bind up those who come with contrite hearts.
Readings:
Collect of the Day:
Almighty and most merciful God, You sent Your Son, Jesus Christ, to seek and to save the lost. Graciously open our ears and our hearts to hear His call and to follow Him by faith that we may feast with Him forever in His kingdom; through the same Jesus Christ, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
