Pastor Joseph Cunningham, Vacancy Pastor

Pastor Cunningham was the senior pastor at St. Peter from 2011 to May 2020. He continues to serve at St. Peter as our Vacancy Pastor. He has a passion for the poor, and strengthening families. He enjoys his family and the arts. To learn more about Pastor Cunningham click here.

Pastor Gary Wickert began as the Visitation Pastor at St. Peter in 2020. 

School Shepherd Award

Pastor Cunningham was awarded the National Lutheran School Accreditation School Shepherd Award on Sunday, February 9, 2020. This award recognizes one Pastor who provides outstanding encouragement, support, and service to his school and community. Dr. Rebecca Schmidt, Director of School Ministries of the LCMS, and Indiana District Education Representative, Dr. Kevin Brockberg presented the award.  We are grateful for Pastor’s years of service here at St. Peter.

An interview with Pastor Cunningham

Interests:  I enjoy my grandkids, reading, photography, gourmet cooking and grilling, listening to good music and enjoying a great play or musical.

Education: I attended Concordia Teachers College, Seward, Nebraska majoring in theology, church music and Christian education.  I was one of the first in the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod to be certified as a Director of Christian Education.

I attended Concordia Theological Seminary, Fort Wayne, Indiana with an emphasis in systematics (doctrine), worship and liturgy.

Ministry: I served at Good Shepherd Lutheran in Sheboygan, Wisconsin and then at St. John Lutheran in Sherbun, Minnesota as Minister of Music and Education before attending the seminary.
