Inspired to Learn

O.A.S.I.S. stands for One Awesome Savior Inspiring Students.
Throughout this school year, we will explore the ways our Savior, Jesus Christ, inspires us.
Our topic for September is Inspired to Learn.
At the age of 12, Mary and Joseph found the boy Jesus in the temple reading and talking about the Scriptures with the Bible teachers.
Read about it in Luke 2:41-52.
We can be Inspired to read and learn God’s Word from the Bible.  There are numerous benefits to memorizing Scripture.
1.  It keeps God’s Word fresh in our lives and ready to revive us.
2.  Provides a basis for focusing on God’s Word.
3.  Provides opportunities for families to discuss how a verse applies in their daily lives.
4.  Enables us to cheer and encourage others with God’s Word.
5.  Training the brain to memorize various things has life long benefits.  Using Scripture as the basis of that training has eternal benefits.
Here are 52 Kid Friendly Verses for families to memorize together.
Here is an easy to use Scripture memorization program for families.  It is simple to set up and can be practiced in a 5-10 minute time frame each day at meal time or before bed.
We encourage your family to be INSPIRED TO LEARN God’s Word together!

God wants us to show mercy to others.

Jesus tells about a king who forgives an enormous debt of a servant. That servant then goes to another servant and demands payment of a small debt. Unable to pay the second servant begs for mercy. The first has the second thrown in jail. When the king finds out he orders the first jailed until he pays his entire debt. (Matthew 18:21-35)

God forgives us.

Children will hear about how forgiving God is toward us and how they can be forgiving with others.

Special Activities

Memory Masters

For each of three Bible verses memorize students will earn a leaf to put onto their tree in the “Hallway Oasis”. Parents can also learn the verses and earn additional leaves for the tree.

Birthday Coins

Students have the opportunity at the meeting of their birthday month to give a coin for each year old they are (or however many they choose to give.) The money collected will go to provide water filters for people around the world to ensure safe drinking water. You can learn more about the Lutheran World Relief water programs, here. $35 will provide an emergency water filter and $150 will provide a gravity-fed water filter. Our goal for the year is to raise $70 through “birthday coins” to give two emergency water filters.

K.I.D.S. Stamp Program

stamp kid imageThe K.I.D.S. (Kids Into Discipleship and Stewardship) Stamp Program provides a fun and exciting way to build God’s kingdom through lessons in sharing. saving, and spending. K.I.D.S. is a service of theLutheran Church Extension Fund. Students receive a stamp book that they are able to fill with stamps that they purchase for either one dollar or twenty-five cents. When they fill their book they mail it to LCEF and a savings account is opened for them. Children can continue to fill additional stamp books to send in and can also send in additional funds to be saved. A five minute video explaining more details about K.I.D.S. can be found here.

Children can purchase stamps to place in their stamp book during meal time at our monthly O.A.S.I.S. meetings.
