Meet Mr. Lee

Mr. Steve Lee attended Indiana State University in Terre Haute, Indiana. He earned his Bachelor Degree and Masters Degree in Social Studies and Education.

Mr. Lee and his wife Helen are the parents of two grown sons, Christopher and Tyler.

When he has  a chance, Mr. Lee loves to travel throughout the United States. His last trip was to Hawaii. He finds it interesting that just a few months ago he was standing on the rim of the volcano crater that is now spewing lava across the island. His next trip, in a few months, will be to Death Valley, Sequoia National Park, and Yosemite. Other hobbies are mowing, driving, watching most sports, listening to good music, and eating all kinds of food.

Mr Lee’s  favorite color is blue (denim).

Mr. Lee’s  favorite Bible verses are John 15: 12-13. “My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” Verse 12, I believe, is the foundation upon which all of our relationships should be based. And, verse 13 is a reminder to me of those who have sacrificed so much for us so that we might enjoy the freedoms and rights that we have today in this great country of ours.

Mr. Lee’s favorite memory from my years at Attica High School was winning the DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution) Award. This award is presented to a student who exemplifies the qualities of honor, service, courage, leadership, and patriotism. My Dad was a Korean War veteran and, so, winning this award held special meaning for me.

On Sunday, November 17th, the lives of many were changed forever because of the devastating tornadoes that struck Illinois and Indiana.  One congregation that was affected was St. John Lutheran Church in New Minden, Illinois.  This is the home congregation of our 7th and 8th grade teacher.  Students at St. Peter Lutheran School made encouragement cards and have been praying those affected by the storms.

On the day before Thanksgiving, students gathered together to sing “Fear Not!” as a message of encouragement to the people of St. John.  May the words of the song also encourage anyone experiencing a storm in life to remember that God is always with you.

The song is based on the words of Isaiah 43:1-2 —— “Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are Mine.  When you pass through the waters; I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you.  When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.”

The 7th and 8th graders also shared the song “Trading My Sorrows”  which encourages all to remember that the joy of the Lord uplifts us in our times of struggles.
